Why being vegan is good?
In this post, I will discuss the health benefit of a vegan diet. There are many health benefits on a vegan diet. First I will tell my story. Later, I tell what I researched.
How I started a vegan diet
If you have never tried a vegan diet, you may feel about a vegan diet as;
- “I have nothing to eat.”
- “I will miss meat and cheese”
- “I will starve.”
I started to try being a vegetarian in 2007. Before becoming acomplete vegetarian, I was buying only vegetables and fish but no meat. But, only when someone invited me, I was eating meat.
I have been a vegetarian for 9 years. Later, I tried to be a vegan in 2016. I did in the same way as before.I was buying only vegan ingredients. But, only when people offered, I ate fish or cheese but no meat.
In this way, It was easy to start to be vegetarian and vegan.
Having a vegan diet one day a week can be a good start. If you are having 3 meals every day, you can add a vegan diet in one meal every day.
A vegan diet has many benefits for health. First, I want to tell you what I got from a vegan diet.
My health result with a vegan diet
I don’t get tired. I am now 42 years old. Even If I am tired after hard working, I can recover. I am fine after sleeping.
People say my skin looks healthy. I didn’t notice that until my Canadian friend told me. If I touch my skin, It is very smooth.
My feet have no more smell. When I was in college in summer at 20 years old, my friend told me my feet were smelly. After becoming vegan, my feel is never smelly again in summer.
My wife always tells me my body has a very good smell. I can’t smell my own smell. But, it seems I have a good smell. I don’t use any perfume.
My weight didn’t change much. From the time I was eating meat, I was skinny all the time. After changing my diet to a vegetarian 12 years ago, and to a vegan 3 years ago, my weight didn’t change. Some people worry to become more skinny because of starting a vegan diet. At least to me, it didn’t happen.
Health benefit of a vegan diet on other people
Before browsing the internet, I already know a vegan diet is a great choice for good health. It is from my experience in my body. When I browse the internet, it reassures my feeling and experience is right. It matches what scientific evidence tells.
When people see my skinny body, some people say, “I should try vegan.” As I mentioned above, I was always skinny since I was eating meat. So, I am not the best example.
Some people try to lose in an unhealthy and hard way.In the meantime, many people lose weight and get healthier with a vegan diet. A vegan diet helps us to bring our body state to the original.
With a vegan diet, you don’t need to suppress your appetite. You replace an animal- to a plant-based diet. Vegan food is very delicious. You can lose weight with happiness and zero stress.
There is a report that says losing weight on postmenopausal women increase memory.
In 2007~2010, I was traveling the world (Africa, Europe, the US). I was giving energy healing. I have seen many arthritis clients. They came to me for pain relief.
It worked for temporary. But, if they don’t change their lifestyle, pain comes back again and again. They told me it was very painful.
I was suggesting to them to try a vegan diet.
A vegan diet reduces the pain of rheumatoid arthritis. It is a pity that there are so many people who suffer from pain without knowing a vegan diet. Otherwise, they keep taking drugs.
By backpacking around the world, I saw chronic diseases everywhere.
Type 2 diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, arthritis.All these chronic diseases have a link to chronic inflammation.Chronic inflammation will decrease with the vegan diet.
More meat and more refines sugar gives your body more inflammation. Instead, if you eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, you get more anti-inflammatory. Anti-inflammatory ease inflammation.
Cardiovascular Disease (heart disease)
I am from Japan. In Japan, the rate of heart disease is increasing. It is like in western countries.
In Japan, our ancestors were eating more vegetables.I am from the countryside in the south of Japan. My grandparents had a small vegetable garden. I remember my grandmother was always cooking a vegetarian meal. She didn’t know the word, vegetarian. But, it was the only cooking way which she knew. She didn’t know how to cook meat. Until 150 years ago, there was no livestock for food purposes in Japan.
Now if you tell people in Japan that you don’t eat meat”, people will see you with strange eyes. In Japan, it is difficult to find a restaurant for real traditional Japanese food. I am not talking about Sushi. Japanese people’s diet has changed in a short time from plant-rich to animal rich diet.
After 1957, when mass meat production starts, Japanese people started to eat more meat. Along with that, heart disease and other chronic diseases have increased. It is happening all over the world.
A more processed and animal-based diet gives a higher chance of heart disease. A plant-based diet reduces the risk of heart disease.
The more good cholesterol (HDL) in your bloodstream is better. More HDL in the bloodstream can wash away bad cholesterol (LDL). Bad cholesterol makes bloodstream narrow.
The vegan diet increases good cholesterol and decreases bad cholesterol in the bloodstream.
Vegetarian people have healthier blood pressure than an omnivorous diet. Higher bad cholesterol level links higher blood pressure and heart disease.
Type 2 diabetes
I am 42 years old. I know several classmates in Japan already have type 2 diabetes. They love eating meat.In the US, I met 20 years boy with type 2 diabetes. It shocked me.
Researchers from Canada reported a vegan diet is the best for type 2 diabetes patients. A vegan diet reduces medication and improves insulin sensitivity.
Cancer is preventable!
People with a plant-based diet have less chance of cancer. Some people recover from cancer with a vegan diet.
Our body has self-healing power.A vegan diet can regain the ability.
Getting older doesn’t mean you have more disease. A vegan diet counteracts age-related macular degeneration.
Do you believe milk is the best way to make your bone healthier and stronger?
When I was in elementary school, the school was providing a bottle of 200 ml of milk for every lunch. I remember my teacher was encouraging us to drink them all. The truth is leafy green vegetable is much better for calcium intake for your bone.
A vegan diet is rich in vitamin and mineral. They can also make your bones stronger.
Many believe eating meat makes them stronger like Hulk. truth is animal protein in meat and egg makes bone calcium wasted into pee. Losing calcium in your bone means becoming osteoporosis.
Doing exercise is very good for bone density.
